Unlimited potential of soccer in focus on Glo-sponsored African Voices

The unlimited potential of the beautiful game of soccer will be the subject of this week’s edition of African Voices ChangeMakers as two professional footballers take viewers through their journeys from being mere rookies to becoming giants in the game.

 The Cable News Network (CNN) magazine programme sponsored by telecommunications giant, Globacom, will feature the duo of King Gyan, a Ghanaian midfielder, and Johanna Omolo, a Kenyan citizen who plays for a Turkish club side also as a defensive midfielder. Both   will be guests on the 30-minute programme on Saturday at 9.30 a.m.

 Omolo, 32, received his first call-up to the Kenyan national team in 2010 and made his debut for his country the following year. He represented the national team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations scoring a goal against Tanzania. He currently plies his trade with BB Erzurumspor in Turkey.

 His counterpart, Gyan, also 32, was trained at the Ghanaian soccer academy named Right to Dream after which he relocated to the United States of America to further hone his skills on the pitch.  He joined Toronto FC of Canada in 2011, and he has also played for the Norwegian Premier League, the Swedish Halmstads BK, among other teams.

 African Voices ChangeMakers will air on Saturday at 9.30 a.m. with repeats on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30a.m, 12.30 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and on Monday at 4.00 a.m. while a two-part 15-minute each repeat will be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m.

 African Voices ChangeMakers, the 30-minute magazine programme of the Cable News Network (CNN) will, this week, explore the unlimited potential of the round leather game as two professional footballers  tell stories of determination and grit which helped their career growth.

 The duo of King Gyan, a Ghanaian midfielder, and Johanna Omolo, a Kenyan citizen who plays for a Turkish club side also as a defensive midfielder will share their journeys from being mere rookies to becoming giants in the game. 

The exciting programme is scheduled for Saturday at 9.30 a.m. while repeats will come up on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and Monday at 4.00 a.m.  A two-part 15-minute each repeat will be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m.

The Globacom-sponsored CNN African Voices Changemakers will this weekend bring to viewers the inspiring stories of two African footballers who have risen to the peak of their careers through hard work and commitment.

The two special guests who will feature on the programme are Ghanaian midfielder, King Gyan, and another midfielder from Kenya, Johanna Omolo, who plays for a Turkish club. 

Aged 32, Gyan started off pursuing his interest in football at the Ghanaian soccer academy called Right to Dream. He later left for the United States of America and, in 2011, joined the Toronto FC of Canada. He also played for many other teams including Swedish Halmstads BK and clubs in the Norwegian Premier League. 

The second guest, Omolo, is also 32 years old. He was first invited to the Kenyan national team in 2010 and featured for the country the following year. The highlight of his career includes representing Kenya at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 where he scored a goal against Tanzania. At the moment, he plays for BB Erzurumspor in Turkey.

Viewers can watch the programme live at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday or the repeat broadcasts on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m, 12.30 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and on Monday at 4.00 a.m. There is also a two-part 15-minute repeat to be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m.

On his part, Johanna Omolo, received his first call-up to the Kenyan national team in 2010 but only made his professional debut for Kenya in 2011. He represented the national team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations scoring a goal against Tanzania. At 32, he currently plies his trade with BB Erzurumspor in Turkey.

This week’s edition of African Voices ChangeMakers sponsored by Globacom will showcase the unlimited talents of two professional footballers and their trajectory to stardom in the round leather game.

The 30-minute magazine programme will feature a Kenyan, Johanna Omolo, who plays as a defensive midfielder with Turkish Clubside, BB Erzurumspor, and  another midfielder from Ghana, King Gyan.

32-years old Omolo started his football career at Coast stars in Mombasa, Kenya. He later played for a couple of clubs before moving to Belgium where he played for Beerschot, Royal Antwerp and Circler Brugges. 

In 2010 he was called to the Kenyan national team, Harambee Stars. He bagged his first cap in 2011 and went on to represent the national team in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where he  scored a goal against Tanzania. 

The second guest, King Gyan, 32, began his journey to professional football at Right to Dream, a Ghanaian soccer academy. He later moved to the United States of America where he received further training.   

By 2011, Gyan moved to Canada where he joined Toronto FC. He also played for a number of other clubsides in the Norwegian Premier League and also in Sweden where he played for Halmstads BK. At the International level, Gyan represented Ghana at Senior level in a friendly fixture against Tanzania in 2008. 

The programme comes up on Saturday at 9.30 a.m. with repeats on Sunday at 4.30 a.m., 7.30 a.m., 12.30 p.m., 7.30 p.m. and on Monday at 4.00 a.m. while a two-part 15-minute each repeat will be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6.45 p.m.
