As the people of Anambra state warm up for the November 6 governoship election in the state, a popular native doctor in the state has ardently joined the guber race.
The herbalist, Dr. Nnamdi Nwanwuo interestingly queued into the race as he emerged the candidate and flag bearer of the Peopile’s Redemption Party's (PRP) for the much anticipated election.
Nwanwuo was unopposedly chosen as the party's candidate, after two other aspirants, Chidebere Mba and Humphrey Anaso stepped down for him.
Speaking at the event of the primary election, the National Secretary of PRP, Babatunde Ali, who announced the election results described the exercise as most successful, most credible and most peaceful.
While commending other contestants for withdrawing from the race for Nwanwuo, the PRP Chieftain also predicted that the party would defeat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to take over the Agụ Awka seat.
He said, “PRP is the only party that recognises the place of people in governance. This country has hope because what we have done today will be on record.”
In his acceptance speech, Nwanwuo said that he was moved to contest the election because of, according to him, the untold hardship Ndi Anambra are passing through under the present administration in the state.
He promised that if elected governor on November 6, he would focus on health, education and agriculture upon assumption of office. He said that if the abundant resources in the state were put to good use, the state would be transformed and more employment opportunities would be created for the youths.
Nwanwuo further revealed that revenue being generated in the state was more than enough for the development and transformation which he intends to bring to the state; even as he vowed never to leave any stone unturned in efforts to uplift the state and make it attractive for investors.
Earlier speaking, one of the contestants who stepped down for Nwanwuo, Mr. Mba denied rumors that he stepped down after collecting money.
He said, “Whoever is making such allegations will attract God’s wrath. I can’t sell my conscience for nothing,” he said.
On his own part, the other contestant who stepped down for him, Anaso explained that he withdrew because Anambra North has not finished their tenure, and disclosed that he himself was from the Anambra Central, affirming that it would be right if Anambra South produces next governor.
