Nation’s Greatness, Measured by Strength of Armed Forces – Government
Awka, Jan. 17, 2021 (MOI) Anambra State Government joined the nation to commemorate the 2021 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration.
The event took place at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka on Friday, Jan. 15.
Gov. Willie Obiano noted that the Armed Forces contributed immensely toward peace and unity of the country.
According to the Government, the nation’s greatness is measured by the strength of its Armed Forces, stressing that half of Nigeria’s National memory is embedded in the forces.
“Our Armed Forces carry the weight of Nigeria’s struggle for greatness, our quest for unity as well as our big brother role in Africa. No National institution has worked harder for Nigeria’s unity and stability than the Armed Forces.
“As we commemorate the great sacrifices of our Armed Forces today; we celebrate the power and glory of Nigeria; we celebrate the bravery of our officers and men, who gave lives and limbs for the good of Nigeria.
“We pay homage to great men and women, whose gallantry ensured that the numerous fires that we have willfully ignited with our own hands will not consume us.
“From generation to generation, memory has served mankind so well; it has guided us through some of history’s brightest and darkest periods.
“It has led us safely away from avoidable errors and it has helped us to take ownership of our tragedies and triumphs.’’
Gov. Obiano pledged to ensure timely provision of adequate resources and necessary logistics to support the Armed Forces.
He reassured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment toward creating an environment in which all citizens were guaranteed freedom and returns on investments.
Gov. Obiano, who reminded the people to always wear their face marks, expressed delight that the Nigerian Legion had continued to be a rallying point for veterans, doing a lot in catering for the welfare of their ailing members.
To cap the activity of the day there were the release of pigeons; the laying of wreaths and the 21 guns salute at the venue by the Governor and the officials in honour of the fallen heroes.
