Akpo (Aguata LGA), June 11, 2020 (MOI) Akpo Community has distributed N5.4 to Akpo indigenes as palliatives to ease the harsh effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Paul Orajaka, Chairman, Akpo Community COVID-19 Intervention Fund Committee said that the money was made up donations from affluent Akpo indigenes to assist in the less endowed in their community.

Orajaka noted that the affluent Akpo indigenes donated as much as they could to assist those experiencing difficulties in feeding or settling their rent at their places of abode.

``The gesture is to support the government’s effort at fighting COVID-19 Pandemic.

``People are going through hard times, finding it difficult to survive the pandemic. In that spirit we reached out to the well-to-do Akpo indigenes.’’

He noted that the money would not be shared to all Akpo indigenes but only to persons with health challenges, sick widows, widowers and orphans.

President-General, Akpo Development Association, Mr Henry C Dim, who expressed satisfaction at the performance of the fund raising committee remarked: ``it is a job well done’’.

He pointed out that the criteria for selection of beneficiaries would be people from various families – kindred groups and branches.

``So, it is a family that will determine if a person deserves the fund to avoid controversies.’’
