Workplace Fatality Leads To Fines For Saskatchewan Company

A Regina company was fined $35,000 in Regina Provincial Court on January 12, 2021 after pleading guilty to one count under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996. 

Alsport Sales Inc. pleaded guilty to contravening clause 19(1)(b) of the regulations (being an employer, fail to ensure that a worker is trained in all matters that are necessary to protect the health and safety of the worker when the worker is moved from one work activity or worksite to another that differs with respect to hazards, facilities or procedures, resulting in the death of a worker).

The company was fined $25,000 plus a surcharge of $10,000.  Three additional charges were withdrawn.

Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on February 14, 2018, near Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan.  A worker was fatally injured after being thrown from a snowmobile.
