Nkpunando Community Crisis: Panel submits report to Government

By John Ndu

Amawbia, June 9, 2020 (MOI) A Panel of inquiry into the Nkpunando Community crisis has submitted its report to Anambra State Government, at Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

The panel was set up by the Gov. Willie Obiano on Sept. 2, 2019 to look into immediate and remote causes of the crisis in Nkpunando.

Some of the grey areas of the investigation include alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the community by its Traditional ruler, the structure and tenure of the Community Union leadership.

The panel was asked to focus on these and make recommendations.

Presenting its findings contained in three volumes, Chairman of the panel, Retired Justice Victoria Umeh explained that the panel found out the allegations leveled against the Traditional Ruler on account of misappropriation of funds.

It also looked into issues relating to property, forgery of Certificate of Recognition, which it said were false.

Justice Umeh noted that the panel discovered that the crisis erupted when the Traditional Ruler refused to support and elongate the tenure of the President-General, whose tenure had already expired.

The panel also in its recommendation stressed the need to attract government presence to Enugu-Otu, saying that the new executive approved by the ``Oji Ani’’, should be allowed to exhaust their four year tenure.

Receiving the report, Gov. Willie Obiano described it as well detailed and efficient report, assuring that the recommendations would be implemented.

He commended the chairman and members of the panel for finding time to serve the people and the state.
