Anambra State Library Board Holds 2021 Children's Christmas Party

It was colourful and joyful on Tuesday, as Anambra State Library Board, Awka, organised her 2021 Children's Christmas Party.
The event, which held at the Prof. Kenneth Dike Central, Awka, Anambra State capital, attracted library users, pupils, students and other lovers of the season.
In her address of welcome at the event, the Director, Anambra State Library Board, Dr. Nkechi Udeze described children as wonderful gifts from God, who deserve to be celebrated and brought up in the way that pleases God.
She highlighted some of the aims of such Christmas party to include drawing the children close to the library, and further reminded the children that the Library is a public library for all, including theirs.
While urging the parents to help their children to always visit and use the library and to always speak their indigenous language to them, the Director who explained that it is also part of the roles of the public library to promote literacy and to preserve Igbo language, culture and tradition.
On her own part, Sister Eucharia Nwafor of St. John of God Secondary School, Awka explained the essence and the significance of Christmas and further noted that it is a period to give, show love and prepare for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
She also advised parents to ensure they include books and other learning materials among Christmas gifts they will buy for their children, to enable them read and not only play during the Christmas holiday.
Contributing, one of the parents whose child makes use of the library, Mrs Dorathy Nnamdi, commended the library services for bringing the children together in a pre-Christmas event, calling for its sustenance.
In their separate remarks, some of the children who attended the event, including, Miss Chizaram Ejiofor and Master Chiziterem Ozomma, expressed their heart-felt joy for being part of the event, which they also testified, entertained and widened their scope of knowledge on the importance of reading and types of friends to associate with.
The Christmas party featured choral presentations, dancing competitions, Santa's stage appearance, carols, cutting of Christmas cake among others.
