The people of Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State have pledged their unwavering support to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for what they described as his administration's sensibility to the plights and heart desires of the people.
This is coming as the Soludo-led government handed over another gigantic and newly-completed solar-powered water facility to gbe people of the community, bringing an end to decades of water scarcity in the community.
The 20,000-gallon revitalized water facility, located at Abube Nando, was facilitated by tge government through the State Ministry of Power and Water Resources, which also recently handed over the project to the community on behalf of the government. The well-attended event, marked by cheers and gratitude, showcased the solution-driven approach of the Solution Government in Anambra State, which has undertaken the resuscitation of long-abandoned water schemes across various communities in Anambra State.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Chairman of Abube village, Chief Joseph Madubuike, alongside the President General of Nando community, Chief Christopher Nwakor, expressed the people’s immense appreciation for Governor Soludo’s impactful intervention in transforming the once-moribund water facility to a fully-operational facility for the benefit of the people. Both leaders explained that the facility, now functional, serves residents in Abube and its neighboring areas, and addresses a long-standing need of the people.
To ensure the sustainability of the solar-powered water facility, Chief Madubuike and Chief Nwakor announced the formation of a Management Committee dedicated to maintaining the water system. They also noted that security personnel have been appointed to guard the facility vigilantly against vandalism, even as the lauded Governor Soludo and the State Ministry of Power and Water Resources for prioritizing the community's needs.
“Come November 8, 2025, our appreciation will be shown in full measure,” Chief Nwakor declared, affirming the community’s collective pledge to support Governor Soludo with 100% of their votes.
“This water project is more than just a facility; it is a sign of renewed hope and trust in purposeful leadership,” he added, maintaining that Governor Soludo's reelection is sacrosanct.
Also speaking, a former lawmaker who represented the Anambra East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Pharm. Obinna Emenaka joined voice to commend Governor Soludo, lauding the rapid completion of the project within four months — an achievement that, he noted, had remained elusive for over three decades.
Hon. Emenaka described Soludo as a “Talk-and-do Leader,” applauding his commitment to transformative governance; even as he urged the youth and entire community to take full ownership of the facility and safeguard it, stressing the importance of protecting public utilities from potential damage or misuse.
Performing the formal Technical Handover of the facility, the State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, harped on the significance of the project in fulfilling Governor Soludo’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructural needs across the state.
Commissioner Chukwuemeka expressed his delight in seeing the once-abandoned water scheme brought back to life.
According to him, “Governor Soludo’s vision is driven by the real needs of the people. This project, long overdue, and stands as proof of that commitment the Governor has been showing from the day-one he assumed office,” he said.
The Commissioner also emphasized on the advanced technology used in powering the facility, explaining that it runs entirely on a solar system, ensuring minimal operational costs compared to conventional water facilities in other states. He added that, additionally, a 100KVA standby generator was installed as a backup, with assurances that it will be reserved for extreme circumstances, given the reliability of the solar system as the primary power source for the operation of the facility.
Reflecting on the government’s approach, Engr. Chukwuemeka encouraged Nando community to adopt a Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model as outlined by Governor Soludo, to sustain and manage the water infrastructure effectively.
“This project is for your benefit,” he emphasized. “And this will serve you well if we all work together to protect it. So, as we hand it over to you today, ensure it is well protected and managed, for a sustained operation and enduring benefits of the people. Always have at the back of your mind that Nke a Bụ Nke Anyị,” the Commissioner advised.
Contributing, representatives from Marigreg Nigeria Ltd., the contractors for the project, assured the community of the facility’s durability and quality, reiterating that the water facility was constructed to the highest standards in line with the Soludo administration's commitment to sustainable infrastructure across the state.
Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Sir Victor Ezekwo; the Ministry's H.O.D., Water Resources and Program Manager, RUWASSA, Mr. Tochukwu Nwosu; and the Ministry's Team Leader for Anambra North Senatorial District, Mr. Okechukwu Onyedibe, among others, who all joined voice to urge Nando residents to take pride in maintaining the new water facility for sustained operation and access to clean water.
High points of the handover ceremony included the signing of relevant documents, test-running the water facility, and an official presentation of the handover note to the Nando community leadership.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the hybrid water, designed to ensure regular water availability in Nando is part of Governor Soludo’s broader Statewide Water Resuscitation Project, aimed at resuscitating and modernizing moribund water facilities, as well as restoring and constructing water schemes to provide clean and reliable water across both urban, semi-urban and rural communities in Anambra State.
It was further gathered that, as of now, the Administration has facilitated the rehabilitation and solar conversion of numerous water facilities across Anambra, bringing a sustainable solution to water scarcity issues affecting many local communities in the state.
