Redemption Women Hold Social Evening Ahead of Mothering Sunday

It was a lively, entertaining and convivial Saturday evening, as the women of Anglican Church of Redemption Parish, Awka, Anambra State, held an all-encompassing social evening to herald their 2022 Mothering Sunday.

The well-attended event, which held at the premises of the church, started with a patrol by the women, and featured other socially, spiritually and physically-loaded activities, aimed at entertaining and uplifting the physical and spiritual well-being of the participants.

The event also featured competitions among the various women groups in the church, which include the Love group, Faith group, Joy group and Peace group; as well as among the members of the Anglican Children Ministry (ACM).

Some of the competitions held at the event include needle and thread race, match past, egg race, balloon game, Bible quiz, fashion parade, among others. There were also a debate among the children, as well as a dancing competition, which was the won by little Miss Chinemerem Joy Nnyigide, among the children.

In their separate remarks at the event, the Vicar, Anglican Church of Redemption Parish, Awka, Ven. Obiorah Alokwu; the Curate, Rev. Lucky Onebunne; the Chairman of Fathers' Fellowship, Mr. Chike Nwankwo; and the Traditional Ruler of Umudioka, Igwe Prof. Harry Obi-Nwosu, who shared their joy for being part of the event, extolled the women for articulating and packaging such wonderful activities to herald this year's Mothering Sunday. They also hailed the men and other members of the church who trooped out en masse to witness the occasion and cheer up the women, ably led by the Vicar's wife, Nneorah Stella Alokwu.

Aside other side attractions, highpoints of the event include the announcement and presentation of trophies to the winning teams in the competitions; as well as presentation of cash prizes to the winning teams of the last year's edition of the competitions.

Results of the competition show that the Peace group smiled home with 4th position, whereas Joy group came 3rd with 69 points, and Faith group came 2nd with 71.1 points, while the Love emerged the overall champion with 76.3 points.
