Anambra: Multiple Crash Kills Two, Injures One in Onitsha

At least two persons were crushed to death while another was seriously injured by a driver of the articulated vehicle in Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra state.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, SRC Florence N Edor, in which she also noted that the multiple crash involved Mercedes trailer, a Toyota Hiace bus and a Mitsubishi L300 bus.

The statement reads, "A multiple fatal road traffic crash happened by down flyover upper Iweka this afternoon, at about 1201hrs. 

"The crash was between Unidentified driver of a Mercedes trailer with registration number SMK 728 DA, unidentified driver of a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number HTE 791 XA and unidentified driver of a Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration number NNE 138 ZF.

"Eyewitness report reaching us indicates that the crash was caused by Speed violation and lost of control by the trailer driver.

"Eight person's were involved in the crash comprising of (5 male adults, 1 female adult and 2 male Children)

"One male adult sustained serious injury and was rushed to Toronto hospital by FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Command. While two other male adults were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the same hospital and they have been deposited at the morgue.

"Rescue team on ground managing the traffic caused by the crash.

"The Sector Commander Anambra State CC Utten I Boyi sends his prayers to the injured person for accelerated recovery and  also his condolences to the deasesed families.

"He warn motorist to desist from excess speed especially in build up areas, they should use recommended speed limit of 50klm/hr. He further warned that speed trills but kills."
