¶Confirms Wife's Senatorial Ambition

The outgoing Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano has explained his plan to retire from partisan politics after the expiration of his tenure and his official handover to the Governor-elect.
Speaking over the weekend, the Governor, who revealed that he does not wish to contest any other political position after his eight-year tenure, said he wishes to retire and look after himself, after the March 17 handover.
He said he had sleepless nights working to make Anambra great, and revealed that he wants to take a rest for the one he did; even as he also expressed gladness that he is leaving office with head-up.
Governor Obiano, however, confirmed that his wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano would be contesting for Senate come 2023.
“As I said earlier, let me finish this tenure first. I wish to retire and look after myself. But my wife will contest in the Senatorial election,” he said.
While noting that he has emaciated because of sleepless nights he had, thinking and planning to make Anambra better and greater, he also noted that he is happy that he is leaving some legacy projects behind, as he exits office.
The Governor enumerated some of the projects he is leaving behind, to include the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, which he said will receive first cargo and international flight in two weeks time; Awka City Stadium; International Conference Centre, Awka, which he said will be opened on March 9 with the launching of a written on book on him and his achievements in office; among others.
He further said he completed131 roads and bridges, among other infrastructural development projects he executed, and noted that he is also leaving Anambra of an Oil-producing State status, which the state and people of the state will begin to reap its fruits in the fullest.
Explaining that his government places high emphasis on technical education because it guarantees employment soon after graduation; Governor Obiano also said he will soon commission 12 classroom blocks built in technical colleges in the state.
He further noted that all his projects are of high standard and quality, as he himself is a man of quality and standard who does his things in the standard way.
