In Anambra, Suspected Herdsmen Kidnap 5, Police Rescue 2

Suspected herdsmen have struck again and made away with five person in Anambra State.

The incident was said to have taken place along the Igbariam – Nando – Aguleri Road within the checkpoint area being manned by the men and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).

Narrating his ordeal in a voice clip released, one of the survivors of the attack, who gave his name as Chidi, narrated that they were returning from a wedding ceremony in Awka, the state capital, when their attackers struck.

Pantingly, he said, “I escaped. My Aguleri brothers were captured by them. I don’t know if they were killed or not.

"Four men and one lady from Aguleri were taken away. There were shootings in the area, but I escaped.” 

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra state, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, revealed that two persons had been rescued even as the identities of the kidnappers were yet to be ascertained.

He also assured that the Command will intensify efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators of the act.
