Human Rights Awareness Creation Holds in Anambra

The need to respect everybody's human rights, promote human rights awareness and support all acts of human rights has been emphasized.

A UN Volunteer, Youths for Human Rights International, Dr. Ngozi Perpetua Osuchukwu made the call during the anniversary of the International Human Rights Day, which was held in December 2021.

Celebrated globally, the event which she organized at different locations, including Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Madonna University, and Victory Model College, Obosi, all in Anambra State, Nigeria, drew the participation of youths, undergraduates, secondary school students, academics, and other members of the public.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Osuchukwu explained that the event marked the celebration of 20 years of providing human rights educational resources and activities that educate, inform, assist and unite individuals, educators, organizations and governmental bodies in the dissemination and adoption of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights at every level of society. 

These, she noted, are some of the landmark achievements of Youth for Human Rights International over the years.

She appreciated the youths, students and other top personalities who graced the occasion, including Prof. Raphael Ononogbo, Prof. Ifeka Okeke, Dr. Fred Obodoeze, Mrs Ugochi Egwonwu, Mr Peter Ibe, Mrs Nneka Chigoo, and Barr. Nnennia Ifepe, for their participation and contribution to the success of the event. 

She further advised them to continue to create the awareness and spread the good news, and to also teach others what they learnt at the event.

“It is an ongoing event for knowledge, learning and sharing," she added.

The event featured distribution of human rights educational materials and other information resources, interactive session on the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, learning and experience sharing on human rights, signing petitions in supports of human rights, among others.

In their separate remarks, some of the participants at the event, including Ifeanyichukwu Immaculater Chibundu, Ekedum Chukwuebuka Kingsley, Anagor Chisom Ambrose, and Munachimso Divine Onwuzulike expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the organizers, and testified that they felt encouraged and enlightened, especially on their human rights, and how to confidently exercise, protect and promote them; as well as how to create awareness and educate others on their rights too.

They appreciated the organizers for the wonderful opportunity, advised them to sustain the beat, even as they also pledged to practice and teach others what they learnt at the event.

Established in 2001, Youths for Human Rights International is an international non-profit organization founded with the stated mission to teach youths around the globe about human rights, thus helping them to become valuable advocates for the promotion of tolerance and peace.
