Col. Nwobosi Fought a Good Fight for Igbos Recalls Chief Victor Umeh

Obosi (Idemili North LGA), Jan. 17, 2020 (MOI) A former National Chairman, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh has described late Col. Emmanuel Nwora Nwobosi as an illustrious son of Igbo.

In a funeral oration, Umeh noted that Late Nwobosi fought tirelessly for the Igbos during the Nigeria-Biafran civil War from 1966 to1970.

Nwobosi was Chief of Staff to late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“As chairman of APGA, we worked for five years and most of our meetings centred on how to raise the status and the good of the Igbos. The resolutions from all such meetings were carried out as discussed.’’

He also described him as a strongman, who until his death at the age of 81 remained strong.

“Nwobosi was before his death, happy at some of the positive happenings on Igbos, which he said were the outcome of their meetings of the past.’’

The former APGA boss commended the family for fixing the burial to coincide with Jan.15, a remarkable day in the life of every Igbo man.

“I came late today to honour him. I could have come on Jan. 16 because of the lateness as a result of the election of a new Igwe in my town, Aguluizuigbo, but coming a day after could have been different from 15.’’

Umeh after honouring Nwobosi urged his son to start from where his father stopped; very strong, committed and fearless, noting, “I was around when your father blessed you’’.                                           

In reaction, son of Nwobosi and a Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Mr Emmanuel Nwobosi Jnr., said that Jan.15 appeared three times in the life of his father — 1966, 2019 and 2021.

“I will write a book on my experiences with my father, I thank you for always being with my father; you dinned with him; you encouraged to for grant him a befitting burial,’’ he said.

An APGA Board of Trustee Member, Mr Romeo Ezeonwuka, an acclaimed Spiritual Leader of Igbos, described Col. Nwobosi as the “hero of our life time: he is ours and our elite and very courageous’’.

“I served with him in a committee that urged the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to grant befitting funeral to the Biafran War Heroes; I encourage other Eastern States to emulate him,’’ he said.

“The book that includes names of those that died during the war was launched simultaneously at the Ekwueme Square, Awka and urged all to purchase at least a copy. The President-General, Obosi Community, Mr Mike Okolo said that late Col. Nwobosi left a legacy of uprightness, dedication to duty, a complete Man, who from the old Eastern Region followed Ojukwu to ensure that the Igbos were not written off in Nigeria.
