Mr. Sentekola Gad, a 56-year-old man has been reportedly choked to death by food during a food eating competition that was recently organised in Kanungu district, Uganda, for Christmas Day celebration.

The Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, disclosed this in a press conference with newsmen, and further revealed that the “amateur” eating contest was organised by one Salvan in Kibimbiri, Kihiri sub-country, Kanungu district.

In his word, “The victim died when he was choked by the food he was eating and the body was taken the Kihihi Health Centre where it was established that he was choked to death.”

While establishing that the organiser did not follow safety protocols while organising the competition, Enanga also revealed that manhunt has been launched on the organiser by the Police.

The Police image maker further opined that the organiser should have warned the contestants of the dangers involved in such contest, put some safety measures in place and also have medical personnel present.

He said, “Under normal circumstances, the organizers of the event like in some developed countries, should have informed the competitors of the risk and have medical personnel on board, which was not done.”

Revealing that a death enquiry file has opened for the matter at Kabuga Police Post under SD REF 04/26/12/2021; the PPRO also warned the public against such risky contests like food eating competition and alcohol drinking competitions, owing to the bad outcomes that usually accompany such.
