Bad Air Conditioners in the Green Chamber May Delay Passage of 2022 Budget

By Izunna Okafor

Originally set to commence tomorrow, Wednesday, the debate and consequent passage of the 2022 budget by members of the House of Representatives may be delayed due to faulty air conditioners  in the Green

The faulty state of the air conditioners in the House resulted to the lawmakers hurrying through their Tuesday plenary, as they complained of heat, while many of them fanned themselves with papers during Tuesday’s session.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila had earlier announced that the House will commence debates on the 2022 budget on Wednesday till Thursday when the House will adjourn for budget defence.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had last week presented the 2022 appropriation bill to the National Assembly.

At the plenary today, Speaker, Gbajabiamila said the House cannot deliberate on the money bill without the AC in the chamber working. He directed the Clerk of the House to ensure that the AC are working before tomorrow.

"Clerk please can you make sure that the AC here is working tomorrow. We have to begin the debate of the budget and we cannot do it under this condition. It is very important and very imperative that it is working tomorrow.”

The Speaker also directed the Clerk to write the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory on the repairs on the building.
