Anambra Man Beats His 22-Year-Old Breastfeeding Lover to Death

Ikenna Asiegbu, an Anambra man in his early 30s, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command, for allegedly killing his 22-year-old lover, Chidimma Christopher, who was also said to be a mother of a six-month-old baby.

According to reports, the suspect, Mr. Asiegbu, who hails from Mgbakwu in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, assaulted the victim before beating her to death on Saturday February 4, at Urutolu village, Mgbakwu, despite interventions from their neighbours.

It was however said that the suspect got the beating of his life after his lover collapsed and was rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead, as angry youths in the community descended on him and beat him to a stupor.

The youths reportedly tried to set him ablaze before some members of the local vigilante intervenen, rescued and took him to their office, after which they contacted the police.

Some of the community youths who insisted that the suspect should be handed over to them, said there's an agreement in the community that anyone who has killed should be killed as well.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect has been arrested and is the police custody.

He said, “On Saturday, we received information that the suspect beat and murdered the victim in his house at Mgbakwu. The victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Further development shall be communicated please.”
